North Muskegon’s Aya Johnson defeated Sarah Johnson of Wixom Thursday morning to move into the quarterfinals of the 96th Michigan Women’s Amateur tournament at Forest Akers Golf Course on the campus of Michigan State University.

Aya Johnson won the match 2 and 1.

Johnson teed off at 1:25 Thursday afternoon against No. 3 seeded Natalie Brehm of Mount Pleasant.

Brehm is ahead 4-up after 14 holes in the afternoon match, which means Aya Johnson must win the final four holes to tie up the match.

If Johnson wins her afternoon match, she would take on the winner of Jacqueline Setas of East Lansing and Bea Murray of East Lansing in a Friday morning semifinal match.
