Here are key dates, information for MHSAA’s eight fall sports

Eight Michigan High School Athletic Association fall sports are getting close to starting official practices.

MHSAA rules include starting dates for practice, when the first game can be played, maximum number of contests or dates for each sports season and when postseason tournaments will be played.

Here is the basic information for each of Michigan’s eight fall sports:

Boys and girls cross country

Practice begins: Aug. 8

First meet: Aug. 17

Maximum contests/dates: 15 dates

Regional tournament: Oct. 26 or 27

Finals: Nov. 3 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

Football

Practice begins: Aug. 6

First game: Aug. 23

Maximum contests: 9

Districts: Oct. 26 or 27 and Nov. 2 or 3

Regionals: Nov. 9 or 10

Semifinals: Nov. 17

Finals: Nov. 23 and 24

Girls golf

Practice begins: Aug. 8

First contest: Aug. 15

Maximum dates: 16

Regionals: Oct. 10-13

Finals: Oct. 19-20

Boys soccer

Practice begins: Aug. 8

First game: Aug. 17

Maximum games: 18

Districts: Oct. 15-20

Regionals: Oct. 23-27

Semifinals: Oct. 31

Finals: Nov. 3

Girls swimming/diving

First practice: Aug. 8

First meet: Aug. 17

Maximum dates: 17

Regional diving Nov. 13

Finals: Nov. 16-17

Boys tennis

First practice: Aug. 8

First match: Aug. 15

Maximum dates: 16

Regionals: Oct. 11-13

Finals: Oct. 19-20

Volleyball

First practice: Aug. 8

First match: Aug. 17

Maximum dates: 18

Districts: Oct. 20-Nov. 3

Regionals: Nov. 6 and 8

Semifinals: Nov. 15-16

Finals: Nov. 17
