BOYS SOCCER

WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN

Coach: David Hulings

Last year: 19-5-1 (State runner-up in Division 4)

It’s a new season, but the goals remain the same for the Warrior soccer team.

Develop young men into not only good soccer players, but also as Christians. Making a run at a state title fits into the equation as well.

““We have a good core of players returning from our finals appearance last year,” Hulings said.

Midfielder Alec Breit will be a key in the center of the field for the Warriors.

“He sees things others don’t and can be both a playmaker and a scoring threat,” Hulings said.

Senior Josh Binnendyk is the lone returning defender.

“We will count on him to lead the new set of players to carry the load of stopping the opposition’s attack,” the coach said.

WMC also returns senior goalkeeper Jacob Berens and a pair of three-year varsity players in juniors Chaise Schuiteman and Alex Rop. Seniors Marc Boersma and Noah Wildeman will also help solidify the midfield position.

“Along with the upperclassmen, we have several sophomores and a freshman or two to add in the mix,” Hulings said. “This may be one of the deepest teams we have fielded, and, although our conditioning coming into camp is excellent, our ability to come off the bench with numbers and talents should mean some great end of the game heroics.”
