Chalk up another shutout for the Fruitport boys soccer team.

On Wednesday, the host Trojans earned a 3-0 victory over the Coopersville Broncos in a boys nonleague soccer game.

Fruitport opened scoring early when Zach Gilson scored on a well-placed shot into the corner of the net. Dalton Mullennix was credited with an assist.

In the second half, the Broncos packed in their defense and made finishing a bit more difficult. Fruitport was relentless in the offensive zone and was rewarded two more times.

Matt Escalante fired a shot from a sharp angle that found its way into the net. Taylor McLaughlin drew the assist.

The game’s final goal was scored five minutes later by Zach Gilson, who beat two defenders on the dribble and slid the ball past the Bronco goalkeeper.

“Fruitport looked great on defense and really worked the ball good in the midfield,” Fruitport coach Greg Kobylak said.  “It was our second shutout in a row.”

Fruitport, which outshot Coopersville 18-1, improved its record to 3-0-1. The Trojans take on Rockford on Thursday.
