VOLLEYBALL
MONA SHORES

Coach: Kyle Kurant

Mona Shores returns six players with varsity experience.

Leading the way is three-year varsity setter Meghan Birr, a third-team all-state and all-conference selection a year ago. Other key seniors returning are Kylie Dennis, a four-year middle hitter, Kayla Mills, a fourth-year middle hitter, Erin Surge, a four-year outside hitter, Lindy Torvinen, an outside hitter and top returner in digs and Kendall Sells, a four-year varsity outside hitter. Sells was all-conference as a sophomore and missed nearly all of last season with a knee injury.

Promising newcomers include senior Katie Laben, junior Joelle Fisher and sophomore Courtney Brewer.

“We have the most experience and depth that we’ve ever had,” Coach Kyle Kurant said. “The nucleus of last years 35-11 and 9-1 conference champion team is back. We are going to be very strong on offense with an outstanding setter and several good hitters returning.

“If we pass and play defense like I know we can, we should be in the run for a conference, city and district titles,” he said. “With the new conference, I look for Zeeland East and Mona Shores to battle for the title.”
