The Muskegon Community College women’s soccer team won its first game in school history on Sunday with a 4-3 victory over Cincinnati State Tech and Community College.

The game was played at Orchard View High School.

The visitors scored 5 minutes into the game, but MCC not only tied it, but took the lead before the first half ended.

Karlee Schreur scored the first goal for the Jayhawks at the 16-minute mark of the first half. Allison Mahn’s cross from the right side found Schreur for the goal.

Ten minutes later, MCC took the lead on a goal by Linsye Haan.

Haan set up Anna Carmean for the Jayhawks’ third goal of the game. Carmean’s shot from the right side hit the upper corner of the far post in the 61st minute.

Ashley Taylor scored the final MCC goal after a free kick by Savannah Swanson in the 72nd minute.

Ashley Groendal had five saves in net for MCC. Standouts on defense were Alyssa Panozzo and Morgan Kantola.

“Our midfield today fought hard for the team today,” MCC coach Josh Watson said. “They had a lot of hard tackles today.”
