Mason Herzhaft rushed for 244 yards and two touchdowns and led the Orchard View Cardinals to an 18-13 victory over the visiting Fremont Packers.

Herzhaft scored on a 65-yard run in the second quarter and from a yard out in the fourth quarter when the Cardinals scored 12 points to take the victory.

After Herzhaft opened the scoring, Fremont quarterback Christian Wade scored from 5 yards out. Mike Siegel added the extra point and the Packers led 7-6.

Justin Hunter-Smith scored from 15 yards out in the final quarter and Herzhaft added his second of the night.

Fremont battled back to within one score on Wade’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Mike Siegel. Fremont attempted a couple “Hail Mary” passes on its final drive, but could not connect.

The Packers had a chance to win despite the fact they turned the ball over seven times, including five interceptions.

Herzhaft rushed 20 times for his 244 yards. Mike Parker had seven tackles and one interception and Jake Kriger had six. Corey Pierce and Ezekiel Epplett each had two interceptions.

“It was a great having the fan support (tonight),” OV coach Joe Tanis said. “We preached ‘finish.’ They came out there, we had a bunch of chances to put our head down. Fremont played a tough game, but we were able to execute and win a football game.”
