The Muskegon Lumberjacks’ power play and the goaltending of  Hayden Stewart made for a successful exhibition opener on Friday night against the Chicago Steel.

Stewart stopped 21-of-23 shots as the Jacks defeated the Steel 4-2 in a game played in Indianapolis. On Saturday night, the Jacks will take on the host Ice.

In the first 6 minutes of the game, the Jacks received a power-play goal by Brandon Flood and a goal from Chad McDonald. The Steel scored the game’s next two goals to tie the game at 2-all after two periods.

Muskegon gained the victory with two third-period goals. Ben Foster scored on the power play and William Messa scored late for the Jacks. Frederik Tiffels had two assists for Muskegon.
