Chase Barnett led Mason County Central to a second-place finish at the Division 3 boys cross country regional at Bear Lake on Saturday.

The Spartans finished with 61 points and placed second behind regional champion Benzie Central (47). Hart placed seventh and Shelby finished in ninth place.

The top three teams and top 15 individuals who are not members of a state finals qualifying team advance to the state finals meet at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on Nov. 3.

Barnett, who placed second overall last year at the Division 3 state finals meet, won the regional race with a time of 15:24.

Also finishing in the top-15 for MCC were Zac Benham (15:59), who finished third, and Jordan Johnson (16:42), who finished 15th overall.

Also qualifying for the state finals as individuals were Hart’s Zach Hintz, who set a school record with a time of 16:28 and placed seventh overall and Shelby’s Dylan Felt (16:40), who finished 14th overall.
