Hesperia boys cross country team qualifies for Division 4 state finals; VanderKooi wins overall title

Hesperia qualified for the Division 4 boys state finals meet by placing third at the Division 4 regional cross country meet at Allendale on Saturday.

The Panthers finished with 105 points, which followed Evart in second with 45 points and regional champion Saugatuck with 39 points.

North Muskegon (133) finished in fifth place, White Cloud (141) was sixth and Pentwater (251) placed ninth.

The top three teams and top 15 individuals who are not members of a state finals qualifying team advance to the state finals meet at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on Nov. 3.

Damien Halverson led the Panthers with an eighth-place finish in a time of 16:42.

Fremont Providence Christian’s Nick Vanderkooi was the overall winner with a time of 15:49.

North Muskegon’s Jacob Chovaz (16:20) placed fifth to qualify for the state finals as did White Cloud’s Hunter Redman (17:32), who finished 14th overall.
