The Ludington Orioles are tied for second place after one day of the Division 4 tennis state finals.

The tournament is being played at Kalamazoo College.

Ludington has 16 points along with Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett. Ann Arbor Greenhills has 24 points and is holding down the top spot.

No. 1 singles: Jake Perez, from Ludington, defeated Corey Siwula from Paw Paw 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the next round, where he fell to Chance Conley, 6-3, 6-4.

No. 2 singles: Ludington’s Spencer Knudsen (No. 3 seed) defeated Lansing Catholic’s Anthony Davis 6-1, 6-0 in the first round. In his next match, Knudsen defeated Phillip Pierce II from Grosse Point Woods University Liggett 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-1.

No. 3 singles: Jon Pugh from Ludington is seeded sixth. In the opening round, he defeated Zach Platte from Portland, 6-3, 6-3 the uipset third-seeded Nick Linck from Grand Rapids West Catholic 6-3, 6-3.

No. 4 singles: No. 4 seed PJ Lovato from Ludington defeated Kevin Payne from Saginaw Nouvel, 6-1, 6-0 in his first match and beat Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett’s Patrick Diaz 6-3, 7-6(4) in the next round.

No. 1 doubles: Ludington’s duo of Mitchell Johnson and Kyle Abrahamson lost to No. 5 seeded James Jurcak and Neil Sekhon from Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett, 6-2, 6-0.

No. 2 doubles:  Ludington’s Sam Nellis and Justin Markham knocked off the No. 6-seeded team of Dom Grinenko and Alex Hooper from Jackson Lumen Christi. That score was 6-1, 6-1. That duo came back in the next round and defeated Grand Rapids West Catholic’s Jake Blankenmeier and Drew Laske 6-1, 6-4.

No. 3 doubles: Ludington’s Yari Lynch and Chad Argue knocked off the No. 4-seeded team of Connor McCarthy and Zach Nimbach from Almont. The scores were 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4). They came back later in the day and defeated Asher Dorshimer and Chandler Ferris from Portland. Those scores were 6-4, 6-3.

No. 4 doubles: Austin Sniegowski and Mason Chapman from Ludington defeated Nate Scharich and Ryan Wolohan from Saginaw Nouvel in their opening match. That score was 6-0, 6-2. I the next round they dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Anthony Caradona and Jon Slump from Armada.
