Mason County Central girls cross country team qualifies for state finals

Mason County Central’s girls cross country team qualified for the Division 3 state finals race by placing second at the Division 3 regional hosted by Bear Lake on Saturday.

The Spartans finished 17 points behind team regional champion Benzie Central with 69 points.

Hart finished in fifth place with 158 points and Shelby was 11th with 263.

The top three teams and top 15 individuals who are not members of a state finals qualifying team advance to the state finals meet at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on Nov. 3.

Mason County Central had three runners finish in the top 15, led by Andrea Lavigne (19:22) in eighth place.

MCC’s Lindsay Larsen (19:24) finished ninth and Leta Larsen (19:38) was 12th.

Hart had two runners qualify for the state finals in Jennie Gottardo (19:14) in sixth place overall and Lara Salazar (19:54) in 15th place.
