Ryan Craker scored on a breakaway in the first overtime on Wednesday night and led the Fruitport Trojans to a 2-1 Lakes 8 soccer victory over state-ranked Orchard View.
Craker’s goal was assisted by Colin Sparks with 5:12 left in the first overtime.
Fruitport gained the early lead just 1:42 into the game after a free kick from Dalton Mullenix. His shot struck the post and Spark pushed home the rebound.
Orchard View tied the game a minute later Jimmy Hendricks scored off a corner kick.
“Both teams settled in and the game went scoreless into overtime with both teams defending and doing a good job to limiting scoring chances,” Fruitport coach Greg Kobylak said.
Orchard View had a 10-7 advantage in shots. Trojan goalkeeper Loghan Stong had nine saves.
“Both teams were physical and played with a lot of heart,” said Kobylak.
Fruitport is 9-6-2.
