A fourth-quarter rally, started by a pair of seniors, led the Western Michigan Christian Warriors to a 42-32 season-opening girls basketball victory over the Whitehall Vikings on Tuesday night.

Rachel Bruinsma and Vanessa Eekhoff, the Warriors’ two returning starters from a year ago, struggled for three quarters before igniting their team early in the fourth.

Tied at 26-all after three quarters, the Warriors received two quick buckets from Bruinsma and Eekhoff then two free throws from Bruinsma to take a 32-27 lead. Their teammates then followed their lead and built the lead to double digits.

Junior Jessica Knoll led the Warriors with 12 points. Bruinsma and Eekhoff each had eight points and sophomore Lindsey Johnson had six.

Jenna Pesch was the only scorer to reach double figures for Whitehall. She had 10 points. Sophomore Emily McArthur made her presence felt down low and finished with eight points.
