The Muskegon Community College Jayhawk men’s basketball team split a pair of weekend games in the East-West Classic in Alpena.

In Friday’s opener, the Jayhawks dropped a 65-59 decision to St. Clair Community College. Jalin Gross led the way with 20 points, including a 4-for-8 shooting performance from beyond the 3-point line.

Jake Anderson was the only other Jayhawk to reach double figures. He had 10 points and six rebounds. Devaughn Cole-Rodney pulled down 13 rebounds.

St. Clair CC dominated the inside with their size. St. Clair had 48 points in the paint compared to 26 for MCC.

In Saturday’s game, MCC bounced back with a 59-43 victory over Alpena.

A solid perimeter defense by the Jayhawks limited Alpena to 1-for-14 shooting from long range and just 31 percent for the game.

Gross led the Jayhawks with 24 points and eight rebounds. T.J. Grant had 10 points and seven assists.

The Jayhawks are now 3-1 and return home to face Oakland Community College on Friday night.
