The Muskegon Lumberjacks dropped two straight games for the first time this season in a 5-3 setback to the host Dubuque Fighting Saints on Saturday night.

The Saints swept the two-game weekend series. Last weekend in Muskegon, the team split a pair of games at L.C. Walker Arena.

On Saturday night, the Jacks allowed four second-period goals for the second straight night.

Muskegon (9-4-1) took the 1-0 lead on a goal by Joe Cox, who was assisted by Frederik Tiffels.

The Jacks took a 2-0 lead on Cullen Hurley’s breakaway goal.

But then Dubuque scored three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead.

Muskegon would tie the game on an unassisted tally by Riley Alferd.

The Fighting Saints scored again before the end of the period to take a 4-3 lead into the second intermission.

Mike Szmatula added his third goal of the night at 5:21 of the final period to provide some insurance for the hosts.
