Fremont head coach Pete Zerfas captured his 200th varsity win as the Packers held on to a 55-50 win over host Orchard View on Friday night.

“It feels great, it’s really not just a thing for me, but it’s about the kids who play at Fremont and the other coaches that have assisted and helped out and it is more of a team thing than anything else,” said Zerfas who was acknowledged with an announcement and a round of applause with eight seconds left to play.“We’re a basketball community and good at a lot of other things, but Fremont loves basketball and it’s nice to get a lot of wins for the community because they come out and support us.”

Fremont relied on its outside shooting, hitting eight 3-pointers on the night. Mike Siegel used his inside-outside game, draining three from behind the arc. He finished with 22 points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Packers built a 29-18 halftime lead and that was enough to hold on the rest of the way as Orchard View just didn’t want to go away.

The Cardinals played Fremont even in the third and outscored the Packers 15-9 in the fourth.

OV used some solid shooting to stay in contention throughout the game.

John Leonard led Orchard View with 16 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Keith Melton scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds and Brandon Edwards added six points, three assists and three steals.

Dylan Krim scored 10 points and had six rebounds and five assists while Mike MacLean and Dylan Blake Siersema each scored eight points for Fremont.
