Fremont broke from a halftime tie to earn a 41-31 Lakes 8 Conference win over visiting  on Friday night.

The game was tied 21-21 at halftime before the Packers outscored Fruitport 20-10 in the second half.

“The girls picked it up on the defensive end in the third and held Fruitport to just one point,” Fremont coach Bill Karnemaat said. “They came back in the fouth and stretched the lead to 10. We hit some key free throws in the fourth.

Fremont finished 8-for-12 in the final quarter.

“I’m proud of the way the team fought all night and came away with a league win against a very good Fruitport team,” Karnemaat said.

Marissa Spickerman led the Packers with 13 points.

Shelby Karnemaat grabbed 11 rebounds, McKayla McDonald had seven steals and Claire Abendroth had six assists for Fremont.

Debbie Pekel led Fruitport with nine points and Jessica Erny scored eight.
