RAVENNA – Fruitport pulled out the narrow 60-56 boys basketball victory Tuesday night over nonleague rival Ravenna, in the season opener for both clubs.
The visiting Trojans ran out to the 21-8 first-quarter lead, and led 37-26 at the break.
But the Bulldogs came back in the second half, cutting the lead to 10 after three quarters. Yet, Ravenna’s comeback bid fell short as Fruitport iced the win late from the free-throw line.
Ravenna’s Kyle VanderWoude led all scorers with 21, while Fruitport’s Amilio Flores scored a team-high 18, with teammate Tyler Fehler chipped in 17 in the victory.
Colton Kantola and Jake Sied scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, for Ravenna, and Luke Brown added 11 for Fruitport.
