Grand Haven scored early, but not often, to earn a 2-1 win over Portage Central Friday in the opening game of the Stan Konrad Memorial Tournament at the L.C. Walker Arena.

The Bucs advanced to Saturday’s final against Mona Shores at 4:30 p.m. The Sailors defeated East Kentwood, 6-3, to advance.

Grand Haven led 2-0 after two periods, getting goals in the first three minutes of each period.

Ian Hibbard put the Bucs up 1-0 in the first with a goal at the two minute mark, then assisted on Patrick Ferris’ goal three minutes into the second.

The Mustangs pulled within 2-1 with three minutes left in the game, but were denied the game-tying goal.

Zach Kooi picked up the win in net for Grand Haven and Tom Zelenka finished the game with two assists.
