Six area high school athletes among MHSAA Scholar-Athlete finalists

Six area athletes have been named finalists for the Michigan High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Award for the 2012-13 school year.

Three from Mona Shores include twins Reed and Hailey Hrynewich along with Jill Klein, Brittany Beeler from Spring Lake, Macayla Greiner from Hart and Michael Heinrich of Ludington.

A total of 32 individuals will be honored at the Class C boys basketball state finals on March 23 at The Breslin Center on the campus of Michigan State University.

To be eligible, students must have a 3.50 or higher cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale and have won a varsity letter in at least one sport in which the MHSAA sponsors a postseason tournament. Students responded to several essay questions, submitted two letters of recommendation and wrote an essay on sportsmanship.
