Mason County Central played almost a perfect second half on Tuesday and topped Benzie Central 77-44.

The Spartans scored 49 points in the final two quarters and limited Benzie to 21 second-half points.

“We talked about what we needed to do better at halftime and went out and did what we talked about,” said MCC coach Jeff Tuka, whose team led 28-23 at half. “We came out like gangbusters.”

MCC used a tough press to force turnovers that led to fast breaks. The Spartans had 17 steals.

Kody Ambrose led all scores with 19 points and  Payton Tyndall scored 16 points and had four steals.

Nick Bennett scored 10 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and had five blocks. Anders Asiala had 10 points and three steals.

The Spartans play Manistee on Thursday and face them in the first game of districts on Monday.
