SPRING LAKE’S BELCHER WINS REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AT DIVISION 2 INDIVIDUAL REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

Spring Lake’s Billy Belcher’s regional championship highlighted the Division 2 individual wrestling regional at Fruitport High School on Saturday.

The top-four wrestlers in each weight class advanced to the Individual State Finals Feb. 28-March 2 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Belcher earned a 4-0 decision over Corey Hassevoort of Hamilton to win the 285-pound championship.

Spring Lake’s Shane Skorupski (215) also qualified for the state finals by placing fourth.

Fruitport had four wrestlers earn a trip to the state finals.

Tommy Martinez (130), Austin Fialek (152) and Alex Foster (125) all placed third and Collin Butler (145) took fourth.

Reeths-Puffer’s Tyler Stenberg (140) also qualified for the state finals by placing second.
