The Whitehall Vikings opened their new facility on Wednesday by sweeping Mason County Central 13-1 and 16-3 in West Michigan Conference softball action.

Prior to the opener, the Vikings honored longtime teacher and coach James Heeres, who threw out the first pitch and has the new field named in his honor.

When the game began, the Vikings made quick work of the visiting Spartans.

In the opener, Heidi Clark pitched a one hitter and struck out four. Bailey Seeger, Janelle Uganski, Heidi Clark and Marlee Anderson each had hits for Whitehall.

Kate Moffit had MCC’s only hit.

In the nightcap, Kennedee Semans pitched a three-hitter and struck out six.

Megan Stout had a home run, two doubles and seven RBI for the Vikings.

Jen Stankowski and Rachel Jabrocki each had hits for the Spartans
