A pitchers’ duel unfolded in Kent City’s matchup against Hopkins on Wednesday. Pitcher Jake Krueger was able to walk away with a 1-0 shutout win for the Eagles in eight innings.

Krueger struck out seven and allowed four hits while getting a pair of hits at the plate for Kent City.

Kyle Busse scored the winning run in the eighth inning after bluffing to tag up on a foul ball just past first base. Busse’s fake to home caused an errant Hopkins throw to the plate, which opened up an easy path to home plate for the win.

Busse started the eighth with a base hit and advanced to second on an error. Jake Krueger’s single set up the winning run.
