The Fruitport boys soccer team put the finishing touches on a perfect league season Tuesday with a 2-1 comeback victory over rival Spring Lake in the championship game of the Lakes 8 Conference tournament.

Fruitport, 8-0 in league play, had already wrapped up the conference championship prior to Tuesday’s game.

Spring Lake’s Nic Ellingboe scored the only goal of the first half with a shot that went off the crossbar into the net.

But the Trojans rallied with a pair of goals in the final 18 minutes of the game.

The first came when Andrew Frost took a crossing pass from Zach Gilson and chipped it in the net. The winning goal came with just under 10 minutes remaining when Gilson took a pass from Noah Hendricks and found the mark.

Fruitport won despite being outshot 14-5. Goaltender Conner Deneen had nine saves while Ben Kramer, Jacob Dyer and Matt Umstead stood out on defense.
