The Muskegon Lumberjacks’ Matt Iacopelli has been named as the “CCM Co-Forward of the Week” by the United States Hockey League. Iacopelli shared the honors with Forward Brandon Hawkins of the Sioux City Musketeers.

Iacopelli earned the honor in due part to his four-goal performance in the three games played this past weekend against the Sioux Falls Stampede at home on Friday and Saturday and a road game against the USNTDP Under-18 Team in Ann Arbor on Sunday.

“It feels great to receive the honor.  I just continue to play my game trying to get better every time that I take the ice,” Iacopelli said. “What has helped me out the most is staying focused while doing whatever I can to help the team win in the end.”

The Brownstown, native tallied a goal in each of the two home games against Stampede and followed it up the next day on the road with a two-goal performance against the USNTDP Under-18 squad.  Out of the four goals tallied this past weekend, two of them came on the power play, and he also notched a shootout goal in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Sioux Falls (2-1 in the shootout).

Iacopelli currently leads the Lumberjacks in goals with six scored on the season, and he has tallied them all in his previous five games played.

The former Belle Tire product was drafted by the Lumberjacks in the second-round (23rd overall) in the 2013 USHL Phase Two Draft and has a commitment to play for the Western Michigan University Broncos out of the newly-formed National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) following his junior career.
