MUSKEGON – It wasn’t the way the Mona Shores Sailor boys hockey team wanted to kick off the season.

The Sailors, hosting Grand Rapids Christian, fell behind 7-0 after just one period en route to the 9-1 blowout loss.

The Eagles got multiple first-period goals from Cole DeVos and Thomas Rietema, and teammate David Zwiers added a goal and three assists in the victory.

The Sailors’ Glenn Kastelic scored his team’s lone goal, assisted by Nick Nawrocki. Mona Shores goalie turned back 14 shots in the loss.

The Sailors will look to get back on track Dec. 4 at Grand Haven.
