KENT CITY – The host Kent City Eagle girls basketball squad sprinted out to a 23-5 first-quarter lead Friday night versus Cedar Springs, and that was enough to withstand a tough second half to take the 44-34 non-league win.

The Eagles now sit at 3-0, while the Redhawks fall to 0-4 overall.

Cedar Springs outscored Kent City 25-13 in the second half but the damage was done.

Bailey Freeman finished with nine points, and Kendal Carlson, Kendra Dryer and Brandy Boehm added six points to pace the balanced Eagle offensive attack.

Aubree Mouthaan led the Redhawks with 10 points.
