Defense was what Oakridge used in its girls basketball season opener against Mona Shores on Tuesday. The Eagles held on for a 41-38 overtime win as they held the Sailors to single digit scoring in three quarters.

The Eagles also held Mona Shoress all-stater Jasmine Walker to 11 points.

The same story could be said about the Sailors who held Oakridge to single digit scoring in three quarters.

But the Eagles were led by the trio of Megan Larabee, Hannah Reinhold and Morgan Giddings. Larabee finished with 16 points, Reinhold scored 11 points with eight rebounds and Giddings chipped in eight points.

After a lackluster scoring effort in the first half, both teams came out shooting in the third quarter. Trailing 12-9 at half, Oaridge scored 20 third-quarter points but Mona Shores responded with 14 of its own.

The Sailors fought back after they trailed 29-26 at the end of the third and forced overtime by holding Oakridge to five fourth quarter points.

Jordan Walker scored nine points for Mona Shores and Amy Gillings added eight points.
