MONTAGUE – The Shelby Tiger girls basketball squad got off to a quick start Thursday night, running out to the 13-2 first-quarter lead en route to the 39-26 West Michigan Conference victory.

“We played better, but we still have a lot of room for improvement,” said Shelby head coach Sarah Wolting. “We are trying to focus on taking care of the ball. We crashed the boards better tonight offensively and looked to our inside game for scoring.”

The plan worked as senior forward Tristen Moore led the Tigers with 14 points. Senior Tiger forward McKenna Inglis scored seven points, and sophomore guard Chloe Sillman poured in eight in the victory.

Shelby (2-2. 1-1) led 18-10 at the break and 31-14 after three frames.

Inglis and Moore both finished with 10 rebounds and three steals apiece, and sophomore Hannah Roberts dished out four assists.

Senior Elyse Taylor led the way for Montague (0-3, 0-2) with 11 points and three steals.
