Fruitport Calvary Christian’s girls basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 69-54 win over host Hesperia in a nonconference game on Friday night.

The Eagles broke from a 14-14 tie after one quarter by outscoring the Panthers 14-8 in the second quarter.

FCC pulled away in the second half by scoring 41 points after halftime.

“Give credit to Hesperia for their hard work in the first half,” said Fruitport Calvary Christian coach Brand Richards. “We have some things to work on but I’m real proud of the girls because I think this woke us up as a team to treat each possession like it’s important.”

Taylor Richards led FCC with 29 points and 18 rebounds.

Allyson Richards added 27 points for FCC, Brianna Zehr added 12 assists and five steals and Kyleah Sutherland totaled five steals.

Lauren Zeerip led Hesperia with 20 points and Mariah Stitt scored 12.

“I was disappointed with our preparation with stopping Zeerip and Stitt,” said Richards. “As a coach I’ll have to do a better job to help the kids prepare.”
