Mason County Central used early first and fourth quarter bursts to top Leroy Pine River 60-52 on Monday in non-league boys basketball.

The Spartans jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start the game and took a 9-2 run to open the fourth quarter.

Pine River fought back to cut the MCC lead to 31-25 at halftime but couldn’t get closer than eight points through the fourth.

“It wasn’t pretty but we got the job done,” said MCC coach Jeff Tuka. “I have to credit my guys effort and desire to get this sloppy win, but we need to learn from this game to get better.”

Kody Ambrose led MCC with 19 points and three assists. Anders Asiala and Josh Ritzema both scored nine points for the Spartans while Asiala added five rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Brandon Hoagland led Leroy Pine River with 19 points.
