ALLENDALE — Grand Valley State University’s track teams will host a high school meet Saturday, Jan. 11, as part of its MITS Indoor Series.

The meet is called the Gazelle Sports adidas Open and is a qualifying event for the MITS State Meet.

The track will open for workouts at noon with the field events set to start at 1 p.m. Competition will be in the long jump, high jump, shot put and pole vault for junior high or high school boys and girls. There will be a 35 or 20-pound weight throw for boys and girls competitors after the shot put.

Running events also will start at 1 p.m. using a rolling schedule in the Kelly Family Sports Center at GVSU. Scheduled events are a four-by-800-meter relay, an ELITE MILE by invite only, the 60-meter hurdles, 60-meter dash, an 800-meter run, 200-meter dash, 1,600-meter run and a four-by-400-meter relay. There will be no final races in either the hurdle event or 60-meter dash.

To be considered for the ELITE Mile, an entry request must be sent to: [email protected]. Meet results will be posted on the Web at mitstrack.org.

Entry fees are $10 for athletes, and all spots are filled on a walk-up basis that day. All competitors are asked to print out a high school meet waiver form and complete it before entering the meet. The form may be found on the 2014 High School Meet Information spot on the GVSU track teams home page at gvsulakers.com.

The admission fee for coaches and spectators is $5 per person.

The final MITS Indoor Series meet at Grand Valley will be on Jan. 31. Starting times for that meet are 6 p.m. for running events and 6:30 p.m. for field events.
