For Kent City boys basketball coach Mark Thompson, Friday night’s loss came down to one bad streatch in an otherwise well-played game, as his Eagles fell 65-46 to OK Silver rival Calvin Christian.

“Calvin Christian played solid defense for four quarters,” Thompson explained, “while (we) played solid defense for three.” CC had a 13-0 run in the second quarter.”

That run, part of a 25-10 second quarter dominated by the Squires (2-3), proved to be the difference.

The Eagles (1-3), though, refused to yield, cutting the Squire lead to six in the third before Calvin won the fourth 14-8 to run away with the victory.

Kent City had three players with nine points – Nick Alt, Randy Thompson and Jake Krueger – while teammate Will Wilson and Kyle Boyd both added six in the loss.

The Squires were led by Danny Carrasco, who finished with 18 points, while teammate Ben Kroeze added 12 in the victory.
