The Spring Lake Lakers raced to a double-digit lead after one quarter and cruised to a 65-40 nonleague boys basketball victory over Western Michigan Christian on Saturday.

A 22-8 first-quarter run, fueled by seven points by Keegan George, pushed the Lakers into a big lead they would not relinquish.

By halftime, the visiting Lakers had a 29-18 lead, but another surge in the third quarter turned the game into a rout.

Nick Goeglein dominated in the third quarter with eight points while Kyle Zietlow bagged a trio of 3-pointers. A 20-6 scoring surge in that quarter made it 49-24 after three quarters.

George led the Lakers with 17 points, followed by Zietlow with 16 and Geoglein with 13.

Jared Varnado led WMC (7-4) with 10 points. Bernard Smith had eight points and 12 rebounds.
