Twenty-four first quarter points got things going in the right direction Thursday night for Mason County Central, as the Spartans girls ran away from host North Muskegon 59-27.

The Spartans  kept things going in the second, putting 19 more to finish the half with a 43-16 advantage.

“Any defense (we) went to,” lamented North Muskegon (4-11, 3-7) head coach Doug Clark, “if there was a momentary lapse, (MCC) drained almost every shot in the first half.”

Both teams combined for just 27 second-half points.

Spartan senior guard Madison Geers posted a game-high 29 points, and senior teammate Payton Bladzik added 15 for MCC.

Norse senior forward Abby Clark finished with six points, seven rebounds and two assists in the loss.

The teams turn around to face each other again tomorrow night. Due to an earlier game cancelation due to weather, the Norse travel north to face the Spartans Friday night.

“Hopefully, we have learned something and will be more competitive,” said Clark.
