The Mona Shores Sailor boys bowling team took two close matches Thursday afternoon, defeating host Kenowa Hills 17-13 in the first match and 16-14 in the night cap.

In Match 1, the Sailors struggled in the baker games, with Kenowa Hills taking the sweep of total bakers points. But Shores began a major comeback in the team games with scores of 915 and 986.

That was enough to storm back for the 17-13 win.

High scores cam3 from Gerardo Smith with 185 and 201 and Dan Ribbink with 204 and 227.

Match 2 was even more exciting. Shores shot one the school’s all-time high baker games with 258.

The match was back and forth throughout and would come down to the final frames.After struggling in the first team game, the Sailors came back in Game 2. The contest was sealed when Ribbink made two clutch strikes in the 10th frame to hand his team the 16-14 win.

In girls bowling action, Mona Shores took a make-up match with the Knights 22-8. The Sailors dominated from start to finish, completing the win with a regular-season-high score of 797.

Leading the way for the girls were the seniors Magann Dykema (424) and McKenna Birch (371).
