Muskegon senior guard Deshaun Thrower has been named the state of Michigan’s Mr. Basketball. Thrower was named as the 34th student-athlete to receive the Hal Schram Mr. Basketball Award voted on by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan.

He is the first-ever Mr. Basketball from the Muskegon area. He will lead the top-ranked Big Reds (25-0) into Tuesday night’s Class A quarterfinal game on Tuesday night against Ann Arbor Skyline.

Thrower will take his basketball talents to Division 1 Stony Brook next season.

Thrower was awarded 1,952 points in a coaches vote. Detroit Pershing’s Justin Tillman followed Thrower with 1,743 points and Jalen Johnson (Ypsilanti) received 1,351 votes to finish third.

The leader for the Big Reds averaged 18.7 points and 6.4 assists per game this season.
