Undefeated Godwin Heights ended Spring Lake’s basketball season with a 63-50 win over the Lakers in the Class B regional championship game at Godwin Heights High School on Tuesday night.

The win sends Godwin Heights into Tuesday’s Class B quarterfinals where they will face Benton Harbor at Thornapple Kellogg High School.

The Lakers trailed 28-17 at halftim before cutting into the lead heading into the final quarter.

Spring Lake trailed 41-35 heading into the final eight minutes, but was outscored 22-15 in the final quarter.

Free throws were the key for Godwin Heights as they were 14 of 17 from the line down the stretch.

“I am very proud of our team.” said Spring Lake Coach Bill Core. “We ended the season with an 18-7 record and had an 18-3 record after Christmas and two of those three losses were by the number one team in the state (Godwin Heights).”

Nick Goeglein led the Lakers with 15 points and seven rebounds, Keegan George scored 13 points and seven rebounds. Kyle Zietlow added 12 points and six rebounds for Spring Lake while Nathan Batts had six rebounds and eight assists.

The Lakers will be poised for next season as 10 of the 13 players will be returning. “Goeglein with be a big loss for our team. We will also be losing our local leader Charlie Warber and our fan favorite Dan Hogan.” said Coach Core.
