A great offensive and defensive second quarter led the Shelby boys basketball team over Montague 58-41 on Friday night in the Class C district championship game.

The Tigers went on a 23-5 second-quarter run to give them a 30-16 lead at halftime.

The Wildcats tried to mount a comeback in the third quarter outscoring the Tigers 13-9, but the Tigers were too tough to overtake in the end.

Caleb Anderson led Shelby with 15 points. Andrew Beckman added 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Jeff Beckman had eight points and 14 rebounds.

The Wildcats were led by Luke VanBoxel’s 19 points, while Jacob Buchberger added 10 points in a losing effort.

Shelby will play Lakeview on Monday night in a regional semifinal game.
