Baseball roundup 4/25: Montague, North Muskegon squeak out wins, Mona Shores falls while Ravenna and Fruitport split

Cody Gjertsen scored on an RBI single by David Rogers in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving Montague an exciting 6-5 win over Fremont Thursday in non-league baseball action.

Rogers also had a big hit in the fourth inning, knocking in two runs with an RBI single to tie the score 5-5.

Gjertsen had a double and a single and scored twice for Montague. Chayse Johnson and Jacob Buchberger each added two hits. Buchberger reached base in all six trips to the plate.

Winning pitcher Bryce Raeth scattered four hits and struck out seven in seven innings of work.

Donovan Locke had a double and a triple for Fremont.

Montague improved to 3-4 on the season.

Zeeland East 7, Mona Shores 1:  Zeeland East pitcher Justin Palmbos struck out 13 and scattered three hits for Zeeland East in an O-K Black Conference contest. Pitcher Ryan Bramer stuck out five while walking onloy one for Mona Shores.

North Muskegon 5, Orchard View 3:  The Norse scored twice in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie. Travis Webster collected 3 RBIs and scored twice for the Norse.  Bailey Cooper recorded the win on the mound for North Muskegon with five strikeouts.  The Cardinals’ Michael Parker had two hits and one RBI. Nick Pillieci knocked in two runs with a sacrifice bunt. Derek Bellah added a single for the Cardinals. North Muskegon improved to 3-1 while Orchard View dropped to 1-4.

Fruitport L-3, Ravenna W-2: Jesse Eckhardt took a no hitter through six innings for Ravenna and struck out six and gave up two hits in the Game 1 win. Fruitport’s Zac Miller pitched the win in Game 2. Alex Bowen posted two hits while Grimm Slocum and Jason Carmean each had an RBI for the Trojans.
