The Muskegon area has added another Division 1 coach to the men’s basketball ranks. Ravenna native Donnie Tyndall has agreed to take over the helm of the University of Tennessee.

Tyndall had been coaching at Southern Mississippi since 2012 and comes off a USA Conference championship. He was the head coach of Morehead State from 2006-2012. His teams won the Ohio Valley tournament championship in 2009 and 2011.

Sources say Tyndall could ink an five-year $8 million contract, but the details were still being hashed out Monday night.

Tennessee has been in the NCAA tournament a total of 20 times and reached the Sweet 16 this past season. The school’s deepest run was to the Elite 8 in 2010.
