MUSKEGON — Area athletes improved one all-time area record and tied another recently at the end of the high school track season.

Allie LeRoux, a pole vaulter for Spring Lake High School, raised the girls’ area record to 12-feet by clearing 3.66 meters in the Midwest Meet of Champions in Granville, Ohio.

LeRoux, who lives in Fruitport, finished third in the event in helping the Michigan women’s team finish second in the three-state meet.

Ohio won both the men’s and women’s competitions. Ohio had 263 points in the men’s meet and 214 in the women’s for a 477 total.

Michigan had 99 points in the men’s and 158 in the women’s for a 257 total. Indiana’s teams finished with 113 points in the men’s and 101 in the women’s for a 214 total.

LeRoux’s 12-foot mark wiped out the old record of 11-feet-nine-inches set by Grand Haven’s Jordan Keefe in 2011 and matched by Grand Haven’s Grace Kendra in 2013.

Earlier the Mona Shores Sailors tied the area’s 400-meter relay record with a 42.8-second clocking in the Division 1 state meet.

The Mona Shores foursome of Jared Steger, Michael Grissom, Matt Schuiteman and Marquon Sargent finished eighth in the event with he 42.8-second time.

The time ties the area’s all-time record in the event set by Muskegon Catholic Central in 1981 and tied by Muskegon High School in 2008.
