The Western Michigan Christian boys soccer team shut down Orchard View 3-0 Wednesday in a non-league contest.

The Warriors outshot the Cardinals 24-3. Eli Vandervelde scored twice and Trent Alphenaar tacked on one for WMC.

WMC Goalkeeper Michael Merz got the shutout. Warrior coach David Hulings credited defenders Tyler Cook, Jacob Ray, Eric Bourdo, Liam Rudd and Max Purvis for their effective play.

“We had some great play in the back by our defenders,” Hulings said. “They did a good job of shutting down each of OV’s attacks, as well as getting into the attack.

Montague 1, Mason County Central 0 (Tuesday)Kaleb Hams scored 6:32 into the second half, giving Montague the victory in a West Michigan Conference soccer matchup. Goalkeeper Coty Tufts stopped 18 shots and collected the shutout for Montague.
