LOWELL – Grand Haven couldn’t dig out of an early hole and lost a 32-14 decision Friday at unbeaten state power Lowell.

The Bucs trailed 20-0 after one quarter, 20-14 at halftime and 32-14 after three quarters.

Schaefer Thelen scored on 5- and 7-yard TD runs in the second quarter for the Bucs.

Lowell’s Ryan Stevens  threw three TD passes to Gabe Steed scored three touchdowns (63, 80, 25) to lead Lowell’s attack. Max Dean (1 yard) and Stevens (2 yards) also had TD runs for the winners.

Thelen finished with 19 carries for 112 yards to lead the Bucs (3-2).

Stevens completed 8-of-16 pass attempts for 232 yards and three touchdowns. Steed was on the receiving end of 218 of those yards and all three touchdowns.

Defensively, Nick Mulcahy led Grand Haven with seven tackles, one for loss. Lowell’s Josh Colegrove led all defenders with 12.5 tackles, three for loss and one sack.

The Buccaneers return home to face O-K Red foe Hudsonville next week.
