Senior quarterback Ontario Porchia led the Muskegon Heights Academy Tigers into the win column Friday night, an 18-14 decision at Brethren.

The pass-oriented Tigers were forced to focus on the ground attack when bad rainy weather hit. And it didn’t faze Muskegon Heights.

“I think we’re getting confident in our run game,” said Tigers’ coach Jimmy Purnell. “We stuck together with our run game, it was a key point.”

The Tigers took a 12-8 lead into halftime, but found themselves down 14-12 later in the second half.

It was time for Porchia to step up. He threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to fellow quarterback Pherrius Flowers to put Muskegon Heights on top for good.

Muskegon Heights (1-2) will travel to Kalamazoo Christian next week.
