The Muskegon Mustangs amateur football team will be playing a home game on Saturday in a Mid-States tournament. The Mustangs will be facing off against the Lincolnway Patriots at Oakridge High School with an 8 p.m. kickoff.

The four-game tournament pits the best amateur football teams from the Midwest, and the winner will be invited  and the winner is invited to Florida for championship game in January.

For the Mustangs’ player-coach-owner Aaron James, the motivation to win is two-fold: It’s another chance to play against quality competition following the team’s regular summer season, and a trip to Florida in January would be more than welcome.

“We want to play high powered teams and we’ll play anyone, anywhere, anytime,” said James, whose team posted a 9-2 record this summer and fell just short in the championship game of the Great Lakes Fooball League. “We’re really excited about this past season, and getting out of the winter weather (to go to Florida) will be a big motivation, too.”

Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free for kids 12 and under.
