A big second half propelled the Muskegon Community College men’s basketball team to a lopsided 95-60 victory over the Grace Bible College JV team on Thursday night.

The Jayhawks scored 54 second-half points en route to the victory in their home opener at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium.

MCC led 41-30 at the half.

Five players reached double figures for the Jayhawks, led by freshman Deshawn Sanders with 18 points and five assists. Eddie Tornes added 12 points, five rebounds and three assists while Aaron Sydnor had 13 points and nine rebounds.

Also reached double figures in scoring were two players off the bench: Marcus Tumblin with 14 points and Tyrome Maxwell with 11 points. He also had 10 rebounds.

“The two stats I am most pleased with are the 21 team assists and out rebounding Grace 49-34, another great team win,” MCC coach Dave Schlump said.

The Jayhawks will be back home next Wednesday night against the Cornerstone University JV team. That game begins at 7 p.m.
