Eddie Tornes scored two key baskets on Wednesday night and led the Muskegon Community College Jayhawk men’s basketball team to a 94-93 overtime victory over the Cornerstone JV team.

The game was played at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium.

Tornes scored on a layup at the buzzer of regulation to knot the game at 81-all then scored off an inbounds play with 11 seconds left in the overtime when the Jayhawks were trailing by a point.

“We really had to dig deep for this one,” MCC coach Dave Schlump said. “But, once again, we had guys make some clutch plays when it mattered most and were able to walk away with the win.”

Deshawn Sanders led MCC (3-0) with 30 points and six assists. Tornes had 26 points and 10 rebounds and Marcus Tumblin came off the bench to score 17 points. Aaron Sydnor finished with a team-high 12 rebounds and eight assists.

The Jayhawks return to action Friday at Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio
